"I've got a problem with my camera. Am I doing something wrong?"

Below we've listed some common problems and simple solutions for the Kiev 88 series cameras. Before you think something is wrong with your camera, check this list first.

(1) Shutter jammed

Probable cause: This camera is not designed to be fired continuously without being loaded with film. "Playing" with the camera in this manner increases the probability of misfire and/or jamming. Two things are critical:

    1. Shutter must be cocked before changing shutter speed.
    2. Shutter knob must be accurately locked in on shutter speed before firing the shutter. (Very important note: forcing it will void your warranty!)

(2) Shutter button does not depress

Probable cause: Dark slide has not been removed

(3) Overlapping frames on negative or inconsistent spacing

Probable cause: Film counter wasn't set to "1" before shooting roll

(4) Film tears around edges while in insert

Probable cause: The silver film holder arm with ratchet has been depressed or bent too far. This arm must be at a 90-degree angle to the film spool at all times!

Always remember, for best results, to read ALL printed material furnished with the camera before attempting to operate the camera.

You will void your warranty if your camera is damaged due to neglect or misuse. It's worth the extra time it takes to read the manual before doing anything with your camera!
