Fotosniper is designed for taking close-up pictures of distant objects, animals, birds and plants under natural conditions. It can be successfully used for sports photography as well as for taking pictures of architectural designs etc. The versatile FotoSniper FS-12 takes the complexity out of telephotography.

A rifle-type support, comfortable shoulder brace, and contoured pistol grip allow smooth, steady framing of subjects in motion. The TAIR 300mm f/4.5 lens lets you shoot as near as ten feet (3m)...and, for instant response, both the depth-of-field preview and shutter release operate from the single FS-12 trigger. Other features include a split-image rangefinder. fingertip focus control, TTL exposure metering. and shutter speeds to 1/500th of a second.

As a system, the Fotosniper is a combination of ZENIT 122S semi-automatic reflex camera with an MC TAIR 300mm f/4.5 telephoto lens mounted on a release mechanism. The lens can also be used for macrophotography, microphotography or copying.

A semi-automatic exposure meter operates through the lens (TTL system) providing correct exposure with the standard lens as well as with interchangeable lenses, light filters, supplementary lenses, or extension tubes. LED metering in the viewfinder indicates the correct exposure setting, which can be seen both with the diaphragm fully open or stopped down. Instant mirror return ensures continuous viewing of a subject before and after exposure. Shutter speeds range from 1/30 sec to 1/500 sec with B, and distance scales from .5m to infinity. Power is supplied by two 1.5 volt batteries (Maxell LR 44). Weight, in operating state, is 3.0 kg and in case 5.8kg.

Five filters are included in this set: UV-1 (colorless filter which eliminates the influence of ultraviolet rays in black-and-white and especially in color photography), O-2.8 (Orange filter used fro black-and-white photography for taking pictures of remote objects to eliminate the effect of atmospheric haze and provides contrast for images. With this filter, the sky is reproduced very dark and the clouds are bold and bright), Y-1.4 (a light yellow filter which improves color rendition of blue, green and yellow objects in portraiture under natural illumination), Y-2 (a yellow filter widely used in landscape photography and emphasizes clouds while increasing contrast of shadows and remote objects; it also eliminates effect of atmospheric haze), and YG-2 (this yellow/green filter is of special value for color-correct rendition; particularly red and green colors). Thread size is 72mm x 0.75.
